It's taken me many years to grow comfortable with my own scars, but I wouldn't let anyone take that comfort from me, personally. If someone thinks my scars are hard to look at and wish for me to cover them, that's something they ought to look deeper into, themselves.
However, your scars are yours. How do you feel about them?
When you put it that way... I think that's true. I sometimes used to worry about how people from home would think about how I've changed here, but now I'm sure it won't be a problem. And it might scare new people, but they usually get used to it anyway.
For me, I think it's me! It's a different me from before, but still me. And sometimes being reminded of it doesn't feel bad. Sometimes it's even nice.
