action! stargazing!

[One evening, Evangeline asks Louis if he's busy, because it's a good night for stargazing.

There's more or less light pollution depending on where you go in Ellipsa, she explains eagerly as she leads him to the teleporter, but to get the absolute best views, you have to go out into the segments. Her favorite spot to stargaze is the Secret Getaway - not only is it safe from monsters, but the stars reflect beautifully on the lake, too.

The difference is stark as soon as they make it into the spring segment - with almost no artificial light out here, the sky is absolutely littered with stars. You'd have to get far from civilization to get this kind of view on Earth, and in the City... well, if you did go out into the Outskirts to get away from light pollution, you'd die before you could appreciate the view.

Evangeline sets up her picnic blanket, flops back on it, and pats the spot next to her.]

[Evangeline is wearing something cute, but also comfortable.]

Yes! I love stargazing. In the City I wasn't able to be out at night at all safely, so Ellipsa is the first place where I've really been able to see the stars.

[Automatically, she starts to play with his hair.]

So, Ellipsa does have a few named constellations, but actually very few? Astronomy is a very recent subject of research and most of the stars have placeholder names. There constellations there are tend to be named after monsters.

You can actually name a star or a constellation at the observatory in Coldreach, if you want. I keep thinking about it and then second-guessing myself like, what if I give a star a bad name and then it's stuck with that forever?

I hope so! I mean - okay. I recognize that stars don't have feelings as such and don't care what they're called. But I would still feel bad for them if I gave them a lousy name.

[Honestly, her empathizing with balls of gas is probably not at all surprising.]
abnormalizes: positive (but it is only a matter of my fix)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that does actually make me feel better about it. No offense to houseflies.

-Oh. But, you know, since a lot of things are already named after monsters... How is Loupgarou for a star name?
abnormalizes: positive blush (you take me and I'll take you)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you approve. I did tell you I'd give you the stars, after all, this is a decent start.

[It's his star now! That's how it works.]
abnormalizes: positive (in a limousine)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Cuddling is the good shit.]

I have faith in you.

What are the constellations on Earth like?
abnormalizes: neutral (she's all right she's all right)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me about the zodiac then. I'm not familiar.
abnormalizes: positive (I'll forget how to smile along the way)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She listens with complete attention, nodding along where appropriate.]

Oh, I must not have, you'd remember if I had. My birthday is Valentine's Day.
abnormalizes: positive (he was even loved by someone)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Naked woman sign, I'll take it. Though centaur would be pretty cool, too.

[Extremely unsurprising take.]

That sounds like a lot more of a pain to determine.
abnormalizes: negative (when i make my move to her room)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Thinking her words over carefully.]

...I'm sorry that those stars are lost to you. Even if it is just one more loss, to you.
abnormalizes: negative (super freak super freak)

[personal profile] abnormalizes 2025-10-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Louis. Her heart clenches painfully in her chest, and she turns to pull him tight to her.]

I'm sorry. -You didn't have to do this for me, I don't want to make you suffer.
